Ayodeji Balogun who is popularly known as Wizkid is one of the richest musician in Nigeria and rate very high by the Forbs magazine. EARLY LIFE
Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid was born on the 6th day of July 1990 in Surulere area of Lagos state to poor parents. He attended the Ijebuode Grammer School for his basic education. He grew up in a polygamous family as his father is reported to have married three wives; he has twelve female siblings and is the youngest child of his father. He is also the only male child of his father. His mother is devout Pentecostal Christian while is father is a Muslim.
His love for music began a very young age, he was a member of a church choir and by age 11 Wizkid had already recorded and released music with his newly formed group of five made up of his church friends.
EDUCATION
Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid had an early basic education at Ijebuode Grammar School. He dropped out twice from the university, first at Lagos state university and later at lead city university in his second year of study.
MUSIC CAREER
The young Balogun has been recording music for local producers at studios around his home town, Surulere, this though never brought him the fame he wanted. According to him, his music career began from the day he became a member of his church choir. Renowned artistes like reggae artist, Bob Marley, African juju artist Fela Kuti, king of Highlife music, King Sunny Ade, 2 Face Idibia were his inspiration as he was hoping to become a musician like them.
2001 TO 2006
He performed as a solo artist with the stage name ‘Lil Prinz.’ He formed a band called ‘Glorious Five’ with his friends from the church choir. The group released a studio album before they went their separate ways. OJB Jezreel was the first producer he met during his struggling days and he became his mentor. He became a regular visitor at Jezreel’s studio where he was privileged to watch from the recordings of many experienced artist. He was advised by the producer to stop recording for a year and learn by watching experienced artists.
2009
After dropping out from university in 2009, he struck a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). In the same year, he recorded his debut studio album Superstar
2010
He released the lead single from the album titled ‘Holla at Your Boy’ on 2nd January 2010 .
On April 2, 2010, he released the second single, ‘Tease Me/Bad Guy,’ from the album and the third single, ‘Don’t Dull,’ was released on December 6, 2010. The entire album was released on June 12, 2011, under the EME label.2012
He signed an endorsement deal with Pepsi, which was reportedly worth US $350,000. In the same year he started working for his second studio album, ‘Ayo.’ The album was initially titled ‘Chosen’ but was later changed to ‘Ayo.’ The lead single of the album titled ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ was released on May 2, 2013, and featured Nigerian musician Femi Kuti. The album was released on September 6, 2014. It features guest appearances from artistes like Femi Kuti, Banky W, Seyi Shay, Phyno, Tyga, Akon, and Wale.
2013
On March 5, 2013, he announced his decision to establish his own record label, ‘Star Boy Entertainment.’ And in the same year he signed endorsement deals with mobile network MTN and beer company Guinness.
2015
‘Ojuelegba,’ was released from his album ‘Ayo.’ The remix version of the song featured guest artists such as Canadian rapper Drake, and English rapper Skepta. In April 2015, he collaborated and performed with American singer Chris Brown on a song titled ‘African Bad Gyal’ at Brown’s concert in Durban, South Africa.
In May 2015, he released a song titled ‘Expensive Shit’ and also announced plans to release an EP.
In 2016, he featured in one of Drake’s songs ‘One Dance’. The song was a big hit and reached number one on the ‘Billboard US Hot 100’ chart on May 12, 2016. The song topped the charts in 15 countries making him Nigeria’s most successful pop artist.
On June 5, 2016, he released the single ‘Like This’ on Drake’s OVO Radio. On July 14, 2017, he released his third album titled ‘Sounds from the Other Side’ on all digital platforms
In 2009, his dream and hope of becoming a music star was reaffirmed when he landed on a record deal with Empire Mate Entertainment (EMC). After the release of first official album, Superstar, in 2001 which included a lead single “Holla at your boy”. He went by with the stage name “Wizkid” at that time.
His second album was released in 2004 titled Ayo- after his name. The album included hit singles like, on top of your matter, jaiye jaiye, among others. He left the EME records after the expiration of his contracts.
RISE TO FAME
Wizkid was already on the road to fame with his release of his album superstar in the year 2011 but in 2016 Wizkid went international after his hit one dance collaboration with Drake. The song topped the chart in over 15 countries including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. This collaboration won him a Guinness world record.
On march 2017, he signed another record deal with RCA records where he produced the album sound from the other side, (SFTOS) which included singles five singles such as come closer, African bad gyal, naughty ride etc. He featured with the multiple award winning musician Beyoncé in the song ‘brown skin girl’ released in 2019, the song eventually won him a Grammy in 2020.
Other videos in which he featured with Beyoncé includes lion king, and the craft. Balogun’s album, made in Lagos released in 2020 was a huge success both locally and internationally.

WIZKID’S BABY MAMAS AND KIDS
A number of ladies have accused the pop singer of being father of their children, a claim he has been denying, though recently some claims have been found to be true. In 2011, ‘Nigerian Entertainment Today,’ (NET) after a thorough investigation, reported in its 22nd August edition, that he fathered his first child at the age of 21 from Sola Ogudugu who was a college undergraduate student at the time.
He kept denying the report for two years before accepting it in October 2013 when he uploaded the picture of his two-year-old son, Boluwatife Balogun, on his Instagram account. He also has two other sons, Ayodeji Balogun and Zion Balogun, from two different women and has expressed his desire to father a daughter after having three sons.

TRIVIAS
Wizkid currently is what can be described as a silent war with his closest rival Davido, though he has been denying having any feud with the billionaire musician. He is also not in close term with his former boss Banky W. He is the first Nigerian to have one million followers on Twitter, he recently changed his stage name to big wiz due to pupolar demand from his fans.
